For those of you who open your offices in the region of Andalucia you will find that traditional festivals are taking place everywhere in May here are some of the most notable ones to let your customer know about and enjoy. Cruces de Mayo (May Crosses) usually occurs across this southern region of Spain early in May around the 3rd, residents adorn their towns and cities with large, beautifullly designed flower crosses, the fiestas are also a great place to enjoy traditional music and flamenco dancing and the atmosphere is full of joy.

The flower theme continues in Cordoba on 4th May when the city enters in to their annual Battle of the Flowers with parades and floats covered with colourful blooms and those involved enjoy playfully throwing flowers at each other. Madrid – Fiestas de San Isidro Labrador

The capital city comes to life in the middle of this month to celebrate their patron saint and those who buy a home in Madrid or nearby will be able to enjoy traditional music, dancing and street parties around the Plaza de la Villa and Pradera de San Isidro, the atomosphere is festive and the 15th of May is a public holiday in the city – which might mean that some usual amenities are closed for the celebrations.

Galicis – Northern Spain Maios Fiesta

This is celebrated on the 1st May which is a national holiday throughout the country but in the Galcian town of Pontevedra the Maios festival is an ancient tradition linked to the arrival of sprin  where residents make elaborate art works made with natural elemants including flowers, moss and branches and compete with each other as well as displaying their work.

Girona – Catalonia festivities

The streets, monuments and public areas are all decorated and this is a colourful experience that all should see.

Spring in Spain

There are many other celebrations occurring during May throughout the country with music and art festivals, historical reenactments including those in Merida where the city’s roman heritage is celebrate with theatrical performances, gladiator fights and themed markets.
