The night of San Juan, the summer solstice is celebrated on the night of June 23rd leading in to the day of San Juan which in some areas is a bank holiday on 24th June. Towns and beaches are filled with the light of bonfires and fireworks during this midsummer festival where coastal cities like Alicante and A Coruña will celebrate with joy marking summers arrival with beach parties, communal meals and picnics accompanied by music and dancing until dawn.
Music Festivals Everywhere
The Spanish love music and dancing and during June there are a number of wonderful festivals throughout the country including the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona early in the month, this is one of Europe’s largest music festivals renowned for delivering a mix of indie, rock, pop and electronic artists. Resurrection Fest takes place in Viveiro, Lugo and this year celebrate 20 years of this haven for metal, punk and hardcore fans. Meanwhile, in the capital Madrid enjoys live concerts at the Noches del Botánico where a range of national and international artists will perform in the magical setting of the Complutense University Botanical Garden, the city also hosts the Kalorama festival of diverse music styles in an outdoor festival.
